GADGETS DECK PROFILE

AND DISCUSSION.

Hey Readers! I’m back again today but this time to talk to you about Gadget Stun or Machina Gadgets. Recently this deck took a Top 4 place at YCS Indianapolis, making it’s new boss monster, “Grandsoil, the Elemental Lord,” shine even brighter than before. The last time we saw Grandsoil put in work was at YCS Toronto where Jeff Jones took his psychic deck revolving around Grandsoil to the finals losing out to Wind-Ups. But back on the topic of Gadgets, the deck itself has been around quite a bit now and people know exactly what to expect from it. They expect a stun deck that constantly gets +1s off summoning their monsters and then xyzing for huge monster for a big push. So let’s take a look at the deck shall we?!

So to start off let’s take a look at my Monster line up.

If you noticed, we only play the gadgets in two and it’s simply because you only need two of them, if you have 3 you have to take out another 3 cards which might just be more important especially since this isn’t offering gadgets. If offering was not at one I would be playing 2 offering and 3 gadgets, this way it makes it more consistent of getting 2 shock masters + Gear gigant x on the field, but it’s not so we won’t bother with it. Next is the Machina Engine, Machina Canon is solely there for a free summon of Machina Fortress while Gearframe is there to protect and grab Machina Fortress. This is why the deck wins; everything makes you go +1 in a sense except Fortress of course. You have the gadgets which grabs another from the deck (+1) then you have Gearframe which grab Fortress from the deck (+1) then finally you have Fortress that is your big beater and every monster he runs over is +1 as while as his two effect which activate when either he is targeted by a Monster effect or run over. The next monster is the one I was talking about earlier, Grandsoil. He is just an all around amazing card, If you draw him early game you can hold him and make a huge push as soon as you get 5 earths. Mid-game he allows you to turn the duel around if you’re losing and makes you go for a push if winning and finally Late game he’s just like BLS (Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning) drop him for game. The last on our Monster list is Tragoedia, in this deck your hand is usually very small because you drew trap heavy or very large because of the monsters. Trag also allows you to stop OTKs and steal your opponents monsters and allows you to xyz with it.

Next is our Spell line up which is a decent size for what the deck accomplishes. We start off with double duality because the deck doesn’t need to special summon, it allows us to fish for more backrow, allows us to set up our hand for big pushes and adds consistency to the deck itself. There’s a reason the card was $100+ when it came out. We maxed out our copies of Typhoo because it allows us to poke at our opponents back row and cards that really hurt us like skill drain. We also have Avarice because recycling your gadgets is always nice. For our big pushes we play Limiter removal. Now Robbie Kohl did not play this card, I do not understand why but he did not. This proves this deck does not need to make a huge push for game but can slowly make its way there. However I do recommend running it because with just 3 gadgets (1 of each) + this give you 7800 damage. Wow. That means if your opponent used any card that has a cost almost, they lose or if they even let you hit their life points at all, they just lost. Amazing isn’t it? Coming to a close of our Spell line up, we have 2 copies of Smashing Ground. This card is one of the best one for one monster removal cards out there but can be ruined by walls such as Gravekeeper’s Spy. Finally we have Monster Reborn and Dark hole. I chose against running Heavy Storm in this deck because when I play it, I always have backrow and I can usually pick off their backrow slowly until I push for game so I decided it wasn’t worth the deck space.

Finally to the point where this deck shines, the Trap line up. This part of the deck is all player’s preference, some people like Fiendish Chain but then there is people like me who don’t like it especially when you like the extra backrow space for when it become dead.  Compulsory Evacuation Device is a card that most players don’t expect and can catch people off guard when blind MSTing (Mystical Space Typhoon). This allows you to go +1 off synchros and xyz, but can really be horrible when you are facing something like twilight where they drop Judgment Dragon. Let’s just be thankful twilight isn’t a deck that isn’t topping every event like Wind-Ups and Geargias. We also have in there, double Torrential Tribute which completely blows up all monsters and allows us to play our gadgets under skill drain! Two Bottomless, because of what it does to decks, it can take a completely well thought through plan and carefully executed and just stop it. This allows you to jump on that disadvantage you just made for your opponent and if played right, win you the game! Solemn Brigade is another card that is like bottomless that lets you pick off your opponents power cards like Wind-Up Zenmaighty or Gear Gigant x, and lets you eliminate that threat. Judgment can also protect your backrow from getting destroyed by Heavy Storm. Coming to a close of the deck we have 2 copies of Dimensional Prison and a lone copy of Mirror Force. These cards allow you to protect your gadgets so that you may summon another one next turn and xyz with it. Well that’s my Gadget deck, I hope you enjoyed reading and if you make the deck, have fun. That’s all for now see you next time on my next Article
